Padenghe sul Garda sits in the historic heart of the western shore of Lake Garda, in the Brescia province of Lombardy. Behind its quiet streets and stone façades lies a small private atelier where the pace of the day slows to the rhythm of colour and water.Over two hours, you are guided from a blank sheet of paper to a finished watercolour. The session begins with planning the composition, choosing a subject and working out where light and shadow will fall, before moving through the intermediate steps that build the picture up to its final details.The technique itself is free and fluid: colour and water are left to blend and spread across the paper before being gradually brought into focus, each stroke building on what the water has already suggested. Subjects are drawn from an Italian Mediterranean repertoire — sunlit landscapes, lemons, fields of poppies — and no two results ever look quite the same.The session can be followed in Italian, English or German, guided by an artist trained in Germany who moves easily between all three — a detail that matters to the many German-speaking travellers who pass through this part of Lake Garda. With no more than four guests at a time, the atmosphere stays close and attentive, less a lesson than an afternoon spent with your hands, some colour and a little water.
